Obsessive-compulsive disorders: OCD treatment in Kiev
Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder (OCD) refers to disorders of the anxiety spectrum, requiring treatment in a specialised clinic. Among the characteristic manifestations of OCD can be noted obsessive thoughts and actions, rituals, increased anxiety. Violation of the ritual of the action can lead to a sharp emotional outburst, and in different variants of its manifestation: from aggression to suicidal thoughts and self-humiliation. After performing compulsive action, the level of anxiety, as a rule, decreases.
How to identify OCD: diagnosis and symptoms
As a rule, the OCD syndrome runs in a mild form and does not create serious difficulties for the patient’s environment. More often the disease occurs in people of the older generation, twice less often – in children and adolescents. Decide on the expediency of treatment of OCD should take into account the symptomatology of the disease, the severity of its course, the difficulties created by the disorder. In the acute course of the disease, treatment is mandatory.
How to determine the disease? Among the most common symptoms and signs of OCD it is worth highlighting:
- the constant keeping of an account by the patient;
- very frequent washing of hands, face, constant cleaning;
- hypertrophied desire for cleanliness everywhere and always;
- constant analysis of events around, searching for a catch;
- impaired communicative functions, difficulties in communication;
- dissatisfaction with oneself and one’s appearance, striving for perfection.
OCD can be suspected by a number of observations of a person’s behaviour in the home and in society. Constant fear and control of events, fear of germs, dirt, perfectionism, repeated checking of actions performed, striving for perfection should alert relatives. Often OCD patients suffer from anorexia and bulimia, which become a natural reaction of the body to the desire to achieve perfect appearance.
The patient may turn to others for help to achieve the desired result. Such people are afraid to appear illiterate, incompetent, unideal. It would seem that such manifestations are easy to support, without causing emotional outbursts of the patient. But, unfortunately, the support and help of loved ones often lead to the opposite result.
Obsessive-compulsive disorder is manifested by a combination of obsessive thoughts that are not controlled by the person himself, and compulsive actions (rituals) that help to achieve calmness for a short period of time.
